C2PA
C2PA is an open technical standard for binding signed provenance information, called a C2PA Manifest or Content Credential, to a digital asset. A credential can record assertions about creation and editing, while cryptographic validation can reveal whether the bound data or asset has changed.
Context
Understand the term in production
C2PA stands for the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity. A valid credential provides tamper-evident provenance claims from an identified signer; it does not by itself prove that depicted content is true, complete, non-AI, or high quality.
How it works
Follow the production logic
- 01
Create the assertions
Record available facts about the asset, its origin, ingredients, edits, and producing application or device.
- 02
Sign and bind the manifest
Use a digital signature and content binding to associate the credential with the asset.
- 03
Validate the credential
Check the signature, trust information, binding, and manifest history, then report any validation issues.
